Oil Pastel: Landscape

This is a picture of my oil pastel landscape. I used a picture I took at Scott Community College as a reference. I used a complimentary color scheme, specifically green and red. My favorite part of the picture is the background trees, I think the colors I mixed to make them turned out good. I mixed in red to dull the color of the trees down and blue since I had added in black. The berries provide a nice contrast against the green leaves. The berries also act as a pattern in the picture, repeating to draw the eye. Finally, I filled in all the white spots in the painting to provide a sense of finishedness and unity. The space in this painting was more shallow but this worked to its advantage drawing attention to the berry trees and the rock. The only part that I will need to work on for the future is using color to emphasize form better. Some places had too much contrast and made the form look blocky and not natural. Overall I think I did my best though through my use of color
